GuessTheSong.io is a free, browser-based multiplayer music quiz. Everyone in a room hears the same song clip at the same time and races to type its title. The faster you recognise the track, the more points you score. There is nothing to install and no account is required: pick a nickname, join a room and play on a laptop, tablet or phone, whether it is two of you on the couch or a whole party.
Rooms can be set to 3 to 16 rounds with 30, 45 or 60 seconds per song. The full rules, including the exact point values, are on the how to play page.
The room owner picks one of 15 curated packs, from 70s classics through 90s and 2000s hits to today's charts, plus genres such as rap, house, indie pop and country. Together they hold over 1874 songs, so two games of the same theme are never alike. See the themes page.
Not sure what everybody knows? The random mix pulls songs from every theme at once, jumping between decades and genres each round. An explicit-lyrics filter is available on most themes.
Hosting a party or a pub quiz? In presenter mode the room owner's device becomes the big screen that plays the music and shows the scores, while everyone else guesses from their phone.
Players bring their own songs and submit one each round, earning bonus points when the others guess it. This mode is currently paused while we rework the song pipeline.
The server browser lists every open public room with its theme, player count and whether it needs a PIN, so you can jump straight into a game with other people. Prefer friends only? Create a room, optionally add a password, and share the four-digit code or the invite link. Registered players also appear on the global leaderboard, but you can play as a guest forever.
Every clip is an official, licensed 30-second preview provided through Apple's iTunes Search API and streamed from Apple's servers. GuessTheSong does not host or redistribute full songs, and every reveal links to the track on iTunes. Questions? Check the FAQ or get in touch.
